Porsche Malaysia Celebrates 15 Years With The Launch Of New 911 Carrera Models

From form to function, a closer look at the new Porsche 911’s performance upgrades.

Porsche fan or not, the brand needs no introduction. Since arriving in Malaysia through Sime Darby Motors in 2010, the brand has steadily grown its presence, with models such as the 911 and Cayenne becoming favourites among avid drivers and collectors. Today, Porsche Malaysia celebrates 15 years on the road. A recent celebratory event was held at The Exchange TRX, featuring Porsche’s latest models—including the 911 Carrera 4 GTS (RM1,890,000), the 911 Carrera (RM1,430,000), and the Cayenne S E-Hybrid Coupé (RM728,000)—alongside an exhibition highlighting its rich motorsport heritage.

The 911 has remained the brand’s flagship for more than 60 years, instantly recognisable by its sculpted aerodynamic form and rear-engine layout. In May last year, the eighth and latest generation of the 911—known as the 992—received its first mid-cycle update. This refreshed version, referred to as the 992.2, introduces sharper bodywork, upgraded tech, and improved performance and emissions efficiency. A main contributor behind the Carrera 4 GTS’s price tier lies in its lightweight T-Hybrid powertrain setup, engineered with motorsport-derived insights. This marks the first hybrid application in a 911 model, a strategic move that reflects the global shift toward sustainability and electrification.

Central to the T-Hybrid system is a new single turbocharger powered by an electric motor. This motor spins the turbo instantly, eliminating turbo lag and delivering immediate power on demand. It also doubles as a generator, recovering energy from the exhaust to produce up to 15bhp of electric power, enhancing both efficiency and performance. Integrated with Porsche’s upgraded eight-speed dual-clutch transmission (PDK), the motor assists the engine by adding up to 150Nm of extra torque and a 54bhp power boost, even at lower speeds. Energy is stored in a compact high-voltage battery similar in size and weight to a traditional 12-volt car battery, while a lightweight lithium-ion battery manages the 12V on-board electrical system to keep the overall weight down.

The car’s newly developed 3.6l boxer engine has been made more compact, producing a total output of 534bhp and 610Nm, resulting in an increase in power over the previous model. It accelerates faster from a standstill, especially in the 0 to 100 km/h sprint, which it achieves in 3.0 seconds, before hitting a top speed of 312km/h. Meanwhile, the 911 Carrera retains its 3.0l twin-turbo boxer engine, but with a few upgrades. One key change is the intercooler, taken from the Turbo models and placed just under the rear grille above the engine. The technical refinements not only reduce emissions but also increase power to 389bhp and a maximum torque of 450Nm. It accelerates from 0 to 100km/h in just 4.1 seconds and reaches a top speed of 294 km/h.

Porsche has also fine-tuned the Carrera 4 GTS’s suspension. For the first time, rear-axle steering comes standard, amplifying stability at high speeds and agility in tight turns. Steering is now sharper and more precise, thanks to its electro-hydraulic controls. The sporty suspension setup includes Porsche’s adaptive dampers and a ride height lowered by 10mm, giving it that signature GTS driving feel: planted, dynamic, and ready for corners. At the front, five vertical air flaps are visible from the outside, with additional hidden flaps on each side. Adaptive front diffusers are also added underneath the car, working together with the flaps to manage airflow. These elements adjust airflow based on power needs—closed flaps optimise aerodynamics, while open flaps provide extra cooling.

Inside the cabin, key controls, including drive mode selection, driver assistance settings, and, for the first time in a 911, a start button, are all placed around the steering wheel for quick and easy access. This makes driving feel more intuitive and streamlined. Another major innovation is the new 12.6in fully digital curved display—the first of its kind in the 911 lineup—offering multiple configurable views, including one that is reminiscent of the classic five-dial layout.
