Flights of fancy
The maestro of understated glamour, Giorgio Armani’s home range unveiled at this year’s Milan Design Week reaffirmed his talent for balance. In this new collection, he effortlessly augments the contemporary by adding the classical, and enhancing lightness by imbuing it with just the right amount of shadow.
Armani’s penchant of creating furniture as micro-architecture showcased this equilibrium to great effect. It’s not difficult to see how several of the pieces may be realised as buildings in their own right; such as the rotating Luna table, which like its celestial namesake, is divided in several phases which can be fanned out thanks to a pivot. Constructed in light-satied brass and a walnut-framed structure, it is adorned with a technical pearl gold fabric base and topped in Himalaya shiny lacquer. The reimagined Club bar cabinet featuring exquisitely hand-painted doors, bringing to mind The Great Wave by Hokusai, finished with an interior of pearl-gold fabric and bronze lacquer.
