Exploring The Yachting Lifestyle With Jeanneau Days In The Pearl Of The Orient

In early May, a Nautical Lifestyle Event Incorporating Jeanneau Days was hosted for three days at Penang island’s only seafront retail marina against scenes of sailboats and an emerald sea. Exquisite vessels from French shipyard Jeanneau, one of the largest sailboat manufacturers in the world today, were showcased by Pen Marine, a leader in Malaysia’s pleasure yachts industry and the brand’s exclusive dealer in the country. Berthed along the Straits of Malacca was the Merry Fisher 1095, featuring an outboard engine aboard a 10m powerboat with three cabins below deck—an amazingly rare feature in small boats, according to Oh Kean Shen, owner and founder of Pen Marine. With top speeds of 37 knots, this model features great manoeuvrability, even at lower speeds, and is perfect for those who love the sensation of speeding on open waters.

Besides Jeanneau, Penang’s elite gathered to peruse a slew of brands that enhance luxurious maritime lifestyles. They included Garmin Marine for marine navigation; Tackles, Malaysia’s largest supplier of fishing tackle; and a selection of cigars such as Byron. Oh added: “Beyond just boating or yachting, it is a lifestyle. People who have reached a certain level in life enjoy the best things in life, which we have on display here.”

Among these was the luxury Danish audio brand Bang & Olufsen, from Charlie Care, the only authorised dealer in the Malaysian northern region. The sleek models, such as the Beosound 2 (third generation), Beosound Level and Beosound Emerge, are known for seamlessly combining conceptual design and acoustic perfection.

Also on display were hand-built luxury automobiles from Bufori Motor Car Company, which are crafted with contemporary-classic styling and modern technology in Malaysia. “We have customers who want to have something nobody has in the world,” said Vincent S, assistant manager at Bufori.

This included the magnificent RM2.3 million Bufori Geneva, a four-door saloon with an interior trimmed with hand-stitched soft-touch leather contrasted with a wood veneer finish. The luxury vehicle, inspired by the golden age of automobiles, can also be customised to suit its discerning clientele with features such as a cigar humidor or an automatic coffee machine.
