In September last year, Peter Hawkings took the reins as Tom Ford’s new creative director, following in the footsteps of the illustrious American designer himself. Hawkings made a strong impression with his first Spring 2024 ready-to-wear collection, which championed the layered, sultry poise central to the eponymous brand. Now, in his second and final act for the label, the Fall 2024 collection, Hawkings is staying true to the label’s spirit with ensembles such as gold-buttoned military peacoats, flowing sequined gowns, and Ford’s signature form-fitting tailored suits.
With eyes hidden behind dark sunglasses and hair slicked back, the men’s lineup demonstrates a dominant presence of Ford’s trademark suits with peak lapels, leather blousons, and snug pullovers paired with knife-pleated trousers. Evening wear includes a range of contoured pieces garbed with playful animal motifs, jacquard prints, and glossy metallic finishes, all presented in a rich palette of blacks, creams, blues, and browns with silver and blush accents. The wardrobe is rounded out by boots, slides, and sneakers, and accessorised with dapper cross-body bags, clutches, and voluminous carryalls.
The Tom Ford women’s collection, in contrast, is characterised by an intermix of structured lines and free-formed drapes—a duality that is evident in its sleek pantsuits with flared trousers and elongated coats with high collars. Pristine blazers and cropped blousons are styled with miniskirt-like shorts, while military-esque chasseur jackets add a commanding appeal. Accentuating the silhouette are velvet swimsuits, flattering ankle-length dresses, and all-in-one catsuits, made from glittering gold and silver lurex. The set is finished off with stiletto heels, embellished clutches, bucket bags, and broad square frames.
