The Mercedes-Maybach EQS 680 Is Now Malaysia’s Most Luxurious Electric SUV

The Mercedes-Maybach EQS 680 has been launched in Malaysia, bringing the marque’s no-holds-barred luxurious appointments to the full-sized electric SUV platform.

On the heels of last year’s Mercedes-Maybach GLS is its electric counterpart: the Mercedes-Maybach EQS 680 SUV (RM1,088,888), which is now available in Malaysia. It combines a 21st-century platform and propulsion system with the old-school luxury that is so closely associated with the Maybach name. Capable of 649bhp and 950Nm of torque from the electric motors at both axles, it will go from 0-100km/h in 4.4 seconds

Then again, speed is not the main thing one looks for in a Maybach. It is, as always, about the interior appointments and environment. From the Nappa leather upholstery—steering wheel included—to the various wood trim or lacquer options, nothing is held back. The pillar-to-pillar triple displays of the MBUX Hyperscreen, a familiar sight in Mercedes-Benz EQ vehicles, are here as well, along with additional displays for the rear seats. The overall user experience is very similar to that of the Mercedes-Benz GLS, in aspects such as the user interface and driver assistance features—though one will find a Maybach-exclusive visual or two.

These rear seats are what sets Maybach apart. There are only two, outfitted with a comprehensive array of luxury features—massage from shoulder to calf, ventilation and heating, and minutely adjustable positioning. They are divided by a centre console that includes fold-out tables, a tablet to control vehicle functions, and can even be outfitted with a champagne cooler—complete with a matching set of glasses. The doors are fully automatic, closing and opening either remotely or from the central display. Extra attention has been paid to damping noise and vibration for the cabin, and the usual ‘Comfort’ driving programme has been replaced by ‘Maybach’, which is designed especially for rear passenger comfort.

Externally, the Mercedes-Maybach GLS builds on the vehicle’s formidable appearance, with a signature two-tone paintwork and the Maybach pattern worked into various decorative elements. Those looking for an especially bold aesthetic can opt for the Night Series package, which darkens various chrome elements and blackens other features, resulting in an edgier and more aggressive look.

“In terms of technical innovations, what we offer in the Maybach goes beyond just displays and safety equipment,” said Nadzir Bin Ab Razak, head of product management & planning, Mercedes-Benz Malaysia, during the launch of the Mercedes-Maybach EQS at The St. Regis Kuala Lumpur. “The true unique proposition of the Maybach is the nameplate itself. For us, it’s about delivering a combined experience—one that integrates advanced technology with exceptional comfort and luxury.

“The experience of buying, owning, and even the post-purchase journey with a Maybach is always highly personalised,” Nadzir added. “When it comes to purchasing, we cater to any customer’s preferences. As for after-sales service and care, we have dedicated support, and we always ensure that this exclusive group of customers receives the highest level of service and attention.”
