A Night With Volvo Featured Dance, Drinks, And New Discoveries

All eyes were on Volvo’s two new flagships.

In association with Robb Report Malaysia, Volvo recently hosted an exclusive 90.90 Friends of Volvo event at The International Gallery at the Kuala Lumpur Golf and Country Club Resort. It was a private affair that welcomed distinguished guests for a closer look at Volvo’s two newest flagships—the brand-new EX90 and the refreshed XC90.

“We’re a brand that, for the past 98 years, has put safety first,” said Chris Wailes, Managing Director of Volvo Car Malaysia and Thailand. “Our cars are designed for people. They’re designed to protect people—not just the people inside the car but also the people outside the car.”

The brand stays true to its core values with the fully electric EX90, engineered to be the safest Volvo to date. Equipped with human-centric technology, some of its highlights include a lidar unit that can detect well beyond human vision, as well as an occupant sensing system that ensures no one is left behind. It is also the first software-driven car powered by the Superset tech stack, a glimpse into what will define the brand’s electric future.

Volvo also makes room for those who are not quite ready to make the jump into going fully electric. The XC90, an icon among luxury SUVs since its launch in 2002, has been given a modern update as a plug-in hybrid. Complete with a sleek, new design and the latest technology, it makes for the perfect stepping stone towards driving an EV.

A dinner interlude by Nathalie Gourmet Studio was exquisitely paired with Royal Brackla whiskies—the first Scotch to be awarded a Royal Warrant. The 12-, 18-, and 21-year-old expressions offered an experience as refined and time-honed as Volvo’s legacy.

Guests were also treated to a compelling contemporary dance performance by Raziman Sarbini and Cayden Diow, who embodied the essence of Volvo’s flagship duo through motion and grace. The evening drew to a close with guests having the opportunity to engage with the cars first-hand and explore their craftsmanship in detail.
