Benihana Brings The Heat With Its First Outlet In Suria KLCC

This is not your usual teppanyaki restaurant.

The signature Benihana experience—home to theatrical teppanyaki—makes its debut at Suria KLCC. Step inside to find leaping flames and dancing knives, as Benihana’s thrilling stagecraft has made a name for itself both on and off screen. It has even been seen in notable movies and TV shows such as The Wolf of Wall Street and The Office.

Main dining area

When Benihana was first established, it was a quaint coffee shop in Tokyo opened by Yunosuke Aoki and his wife, Katsu. Over time, it expanded into a full-service restaurant. But the Benihana that the world has come to know and love today only took off after Hiroaki, one of Aoki and Katsu’s four sons, made the move from Tokyo to New York City. Carrying with him years of experience spent in his family-run restaurant, Hiroaki launched a new vision of the brand, fusing the concept of Japanese dining with a sprinkle of performance magic.

Chef at the live teppanyaki counter

Those who do not recognise the name Hiroaki Aoki may be more familiar with Rocky Aoki instead, a moniker he adopted while living in the United States. With a larger-than-life personality, Rocky was more than just an entrepreneur. He was a member of the Japanese Olympic wrestling team, a professional offshore powerboat racer, one of the first few people to cross the Pacific Ocean in a hot-air balloon, and the name behind two of the biggest pop-culture figures—DJ Steve Aoki and model-actress Devon Aoki.

A sampling of what the a la carte menu has to offer

Now, local diners can have a taste of his star-studded legacy. At Benihana Malaysia, guests have the option of dining in the main dining area or pulling up a seat at the teppanyaki counter for a closer view of the live entertainment. To savour the full experience, select between three curated kaiseki courses, with premium selections including Hokkaido scallops, Japanese A4 Wagyu steak, and jumbo tiger prawns. Besides the teppanyaki experience, the à la carte menu also features classics such as sushi rolls, sukiyaki, and shabu-shabu. It’s the perfect new spot in the city for gatherings with family and friends, and an exciting way to shake things up on a date night. Business lunches can also be hosted at the restaurant’s private dining rooms, ideal for those who prefer to be away from the buzz.

If you are in the mood for teppanyaki, enjoy it with flair. Keep in mind to always be at the ready for a shrimp toss in between bites—it’s all in good fun.
