High tea in a high place
High tea usually calls to mind delicate servings of cucumber sandwiches and tantalising morsels of cake on three-tier trays alongside tea in fine china pots. Not at Nobu Kuala Lumput. The first South-East Asia outpost of Nobu is taking a decidedly Japanese slant to its unique high tea, available from July 23, 2016 every Saturday and Sunday between 2.30pm and 5pm.
The signature Savoury & Sweet Delights set (RM93++) is a menu of two halves. First, a collection of flavoursome delights, some of which are adapted from Nobu KL’s menu, including crispy seaweed chips, a meltingly delicious salmon tartare and a white fish tiradito with the refreshing zing of yuzu. It may be a meal on its own, but save space for the Sweet portion: a coffee crème brûlée with Suntory whiskey foam, banana harumaki with a passionfruit puree and scrumptious profiteroles filled with crème patiessier and raspberry.
This being a Japanese high tea, the Savoury & Sweet Delights comes paired with servings of Japanese green tea. Those preferring a drink with more punch may opt for the intricately-constructed Matcha Café Latte. The Black Forest Coffee is a punchy melange of coffee and maraschino cherry, while the Coffee Jelly is delightful in its delineated layers of cool coffee jelly and milk, as much a pudding as it is a drink.
