This New Piaget Andy Warhol Watch Is A Colourful Nod To The Iconic Artist

An unusual and creative rendition of a hard stone dial, the Piaget Andy Warhol ‘Collage’ limited edition celebrates the watchmaker’s ongoing association with the Andy Warhol Foundation for the Visual Arts.

Piaget’s association with Andy Warhol (1928-1987) goes back decades, to when the American artist was at the height of his fame. An avid watch collector, Warhol’s most prominent Piaget acquisition was a cushion-shaped Black Tie he picked up in 1973. In the years since, this watch was informally known as the ‘Andy Warhol’, but that moniker has become official since last year, when Piaget launched a partnership with the Andy Warhol Foundation for Visual Arts.

It was only a matter of time, then, that the Andy Warhol Watch—as it is now known—was going to be the basis of some big moves from Piaget. And here is one for 2025: a 50-piece limited edition nicknamed ‘Collage’ (RM328,000), inspired by one of the artist’s polaroid collage self-portraits taken in 1986. The artistic rendition here is on the dial of the watch, bold blocks of colour laid out askew and, somehow, managing to look crumpled and messy, and overlapping with one another.

Its construction taps into Piaget’s mastery of hard stone, something that is part of the watchmaker’s own iconic 1960s period. The dial is made up of several slices of ornamental stones—a black onyx ‘base’ in three pieces, and three ‘rectangles’ of yellow Namibian serpentine, pink opal, and green chrysoprase. These pieces are all laid flush with each other, marquetry style, but the resulting composition is an illusion of layering, as one finds in collage.

The 45mm case, distinctive on its own in shape and stepped bezel, is crafted from yellow gold. This is a nod to Warhol’s original watch, and sets this release apart from the rest of the current Andy Warhol collection, which only consists of white and rose gold. It is paired with a green alligator leather strap, lending a touch of complementary contrast, and the caseback sports an engraving of the artwork the dial design is based on, alongside the artist’s signature.

As one would expect from Piaget, the watch is a thin one—just a hair more than 8mm in thickness. It hosts a slim, two-hand, self-winding movement with a 40-hour power reserve: Piaget’s own calibre 501P1.
