A hole-in-one solution for traversing the greens
Discerning duffers can soon cruise the links in luxury with the new Mercedes-Benz Style Edition Garia Golf Car. The collaborative cart was developed by the renowned marque’s designers and the golf mobility specialists at Garia with support provided by Daimler’s Think & Act Tank Business Innovation team. The partnership began after Garia’s co-founder Anders Lynge entered a design contest from the Mercedes-Benz Golf page on Facebook in 2013.
As would be expected, the fairway-friendly Mercedes is the epitome of posh with a cabin featuring a touchscreen display that includes an electronic scorecard, course map and positioning presentation, hands-free Bluetooth connectivity, and power monitoring. The tablet has also been tailored to control the four-speaker sound system, ambient overhead cabin lighting, and speed-sensitive windshield wipers. Club management is made easy with golf bag mounts at the back (angled at a convenient 45 degrees) complemented by locking storage space. And when downtime calls for a drink, a refrigerator has been built-in under the seat.
Advertised as a ‘real sports car’, the refined ride can drive to the green at 30 kph (propelled by its electric motor), is equipped with ‘sport’ and ‘eco’ performance modes, and has a rate-dependent range of up to 50 miles per charge. The ultimate conveyance for true connoisseurs of the game, the vehicle comprises an aluminium chassis with double-wishbone suspension, a carbon-fibre canopy and seat frame, and a golf-ball-patterned front grille flanked by jewel-like LED headlights with chrome inlays. Adding an athletic aesthetic to its stance are 14-inch wheels.
