Chic allure
When So Sofitel Singapore opened its doors four years ago in Singapore’s central business district, it went for a luxury hospitality experience rooted in French elegance. With award-winning designer Isabelle Miaja at the helm, the Miaja Design Group – Singapore’s only French design house – concocted a delightful space within the nearly century-old neo-classical heritage building which houses the hotel.
Beyond the Karl Lagerfeld-designed ‘The Lion’s Seal’ which pops up throughout the hotel and even on the livery of its front-of-house ambassadors, the hotel’s tribute to French elegance is exemplified by its higher room offering, the So VIP guestroom. Each of the three So VIP suites offer 92 square metres of space with three-metre high ceilings; both of which are a distinct rarity in Singapore.
Inside these rooms, the colour palette ranges from white, beige and taupe, accented by orange upholstery, mauve rugs and eclectic modern art. A dining area, lounge and spacious bathroom offer effortless chic – and endlessly Instagrammable spots. The element of glamour comes through with top-grade marble finishing and, borrowing from its neighbours, an Italian Bisazza Spa within its bathroom configuration.
Neat details in the rooms hint at the hotel’s attentions to guests, from hair gel and face wash, to an in-room private bar. A classy touch is the signature Urban Forest eau de parfum, an intoxicating bouquet of flowers and scented woods. Checking into the So VIP suites also means you enjoy a glass of champagne with your breakfast. As the day turns into dusk, Xperience, the hotel’s gastro-bar concept serves up a medley of modern European dishes with an Asian edge. Then, just an elevator ride up, you arrive at the hotel’s rooftop bar Hi-So, where you can indulge in unique designer cocktails, the perfect way to end the day before retiring to the privacy of your suite.
