The gilded age of travel comes alive at the new Rimowa store in Suria KLCC Shopping Centre. For a brand which has existed since 1898, Rimowa has invariably discovered the keystones of crafting premium luggage for travellers. Indeed, its string of successes in premium luggage – drawn in part from the world of aircraft construction – has resulted in the use of aluminium for the first time in suitcases, back in 1937, and later adding grooves in the 1950s.
Much more recently, in the year 2000, the first polycarbonate case for travel debuted to the world, merging high-tech function with a lightweight character and durability. To celebrate its 120 years, the brand unveiled a new visual identity, allied with improvements across its family of collections which include upgraded wheels, handles and interiors. “Rimowa is known for its commitment to timeless craftsmanship and build-quality,” emphasises Alexandre Arnault, CEO of Rimowa.
The Original Cabin S (RM4,650) is a prime example of its build quality, with each case requiring nearly 200 components and more than 90 steps to complete (of which 80 per cent of the processes is done by hand). Naturally, Rimowa’s consideration for its clients doesn’t end there, with its Unique Client Care extending a five-year worldwide warranty with loan cases, complimentary repair and replacements within the warranty period across its global network including the five-star hotel partners.
