This Lavish Bovet Watch Marries Old-World Techniques With 21st Century Materials

Lavish Luxury

Bovet watches typically radiate an old-world sense of ostentatious ornamentation. This is still true of the Recital 26 Brainstorm Chapter One (SFr295,000/RM1.24 million and limited to 60 pieces) but with a modern, transparent twist. The 48mm case is crafted entirely out of sapphire, mounted on a titanium bezel and lugs, and is sloped in Bovet’s signature ‘writing desk’ shape.

The see-through case allows an unfettered look at the movement within, and there is a fair bit to admire. At 12 o’clock is a hemispherical moonphase indicator, complete with engraved and lumed lunar surface. Hours and minutes are indicated by a dramatically curved dial, available in blue quartz or spoked aluminium. This is flanked by a big date display at 9 o’clock and a power reserve indicator at 3 o’clock. At 6 o’clock sits the double-face flying tourbillon, and the hand-wound movement has an impressive 10-day power reserve. It is also subtly anchored to the case back, giving an illusion that it floats in the middle of the case.

Despite contemporary accents such as the transparent date disc, the black bridges visible through the back—and the sapphire case, of course—there is a lavishness to the impeccably finished Recital 26 that exudes traditional opulence.
