Aston Martin and Quintessence Yachts’ AM37 begins to take shape
Announced last year, Aston Martin and Quintessence Yachts recently shared more details on their upcoming powerboat collaboration, the AM37. The boat was spotlighted at the Salone del Mobile in April 2016, previewing a powerboat that captures the style and performance of Aston Martin and the technological edge of Quintessence Yachts.
Due for launch in late 2016, some touted revolutionary features remain under wraps, but what has been unveiled is the AM37’s unique sliding deck, consisting of three carbon panels that can fold under the aft deck to uncover the cockpit. The aft deck itself can slide back to allow access to the dock, making it a simple motion to just dive into the waters where the boat is anchored. The deck can also be raised, where the engine room, storage compartments and bimini top can then be accessed, sliding away out of view after with the simple click of a key. The air conditioning, fridge and espresso machine can all be operated remotely, so there is not a moment wasted the minute the boat is started.
The AM37 features naval architecture from Holland’s Mulder Design, powered by twin 600hp Mercury petrol engine, delivering enough acceleration to hit almost 60 knots flat out. Other options include twin 520hp petrol engines or 370hp diesels. The 11.3m boat itself will come in two variants – the grand tourer AM37 and the speedier AM37 S, both of which will be built in resin-infused composite and carbon fibre near Southhampton, England. When it finally hits the waters at launch, the AM37 will be a thing of beauty embodying the essence of the brands, and what Aston Martin and Quintessence hope will be a ‘breath of fresh air’ in a marina.
