Infused with scents like strawberry, lychee, and mulled wine, Lilin+Co’s soy wax candles smell good enough to eat and drink. And this December, it’s possible to do exactly that at The RuMa Hotel and Residences. As part of a three-way collaboration, The RuMa has teamed up master bartender Shawn Chong to present four Scentsational cocktails based on Lilin+Co’s Strawberry & Champagne, Mimosa & Mandarin, Lychee & Black Tea, and Naughty or Nice Mulled Wine candles.
After cold-nosing each unlit candle’s scent, Chong (who started the pioneering Kuala Lumpur speakeasy, Omakase + Appreciate) has created a quartet of drinks, all accompanied by delicate canapés prepared by Tyson Gee, executive chef at the hotel’s ATAS Modern Malaysian Eatery. A Strawberry + Bubbly mocktail of strawberry and peach syrup with soda water, for instance, comes with a canapé of compressed cucumber with smoked salmon, while a smooth but potent Orange + Martini is matched with a deep-fried, cherry-topped shiso leaf.
A Christmassy Apple + Cinnamon whisky cocktail (complete with a smoking, newly blowtorched cinnamon stick ‘wick’) will have customers licking their fingers as they devour a salted chocolate truffle. Then feast on a juicy sliver of slow-roasted pineapple and a stick of plump lychees drizzled with hinoki wood-flavoured Japanese bitters before draining a glass of Lychee + Cypress with VSOP cognac and oolong tea. Available at the elegant terrazzo counter of SEVEN Lobby Bar and Lounge from 4 December to 3 January 2021, each cocktail is priced between RM50 and RM60. Customers who purchase the full set of four drinks receive a complimentary 65g Lilin+Co candle.
