The recent presentation of the Shiatzy Chen Autumn-Winter 2021/22 collection – which took place in conjunction with Taipei Fashion Week – was also livestreamed into the newly renovated The Starhill Dining, in the heart of Kuala Lumpur. Guests took a tour of the latest season’s range at the new Shiatzy Chen boutique located at The Starhill, before adjourning to The Alchemy to watch a livestream of the fashion show happening approximately 3,000 kilometres away at Taiwan’s ancient Guanyinshan Water Reservoir monument, transformed into an extraordinary background and catwalk for the fashion house’s Creative Director Chen Tsai-Hsia’s interpretation of time.
Her point of origination for this collection starts with the power dressing of the 70s, and runs through gender-neutral looks with Oriental craftsmanship and riffs on surrealism. The latter is a signature Shiatzy Chen draw, with its propensity to blend old and new forms, utilising free spirit hand drawings and the Sage Rose – known otherwise as the clock flower – scattered across the theme. These motifs run across a collection of pants and pencil skirts. Also on show are lace corsets paired with vest and sheer net yarn tops, while lamb skin knee-length pants meet knee-high boots. Colours run the gamut of warm brown and royal blue to black and gold stripes, embellished with feathers and 3D lace to evoke a rock ‘n’ roll cool.
Following the livestream, the invited guests were then welcomed into the new Club Chinois, a private dining space decked out with Shiatzy Chen’s new looks of the season. They were then served with the signature Chiu Chow cuisine of Luk Yu Tea House within this private space, with aromatic roasted chicken, seasonal vegetables with Japanese black garlic, crispy grouper with pine nuts, and the Luk Yu Tea House tastemaker Chef Leong’s signature prawns, redolent with dried chilli, garlic and spring onions. The meal ended with double-boiled Kabocha squash in soy milk and chilled Osmanthus jelly with chrysanthemum.
