Founded by Céline Vipiana and her husband in 1945, the first Celine store was very different from the modern minimalist aesthetic that we know of today. It sold made-to-measure children’s shoes and was highly distinct with its red elephant logo. Since then, the Maison has undergone drastic change, dressing the modern everyday woman from head to toe with ready-to-wear garments and accessories. It has also grown its image as a highly acclaimed fashion brand, beloved by many around the world.
The Maison’s current creative director, Hedi Slimane, is set on evolving the brand further while targeting a younger set. This was evident upon the beginning of his post, with the introduction of a men’s line and couture collection. His vision to accentuate the slick minimalist vision that his predecessor, Phoebe Philo, previously debuted was prominent with the brand’s latest apparel and accessories, but also in the interior of the new Pavilion KL store.
The 316 square-metre space offers a balanced juxtaposition of natural stones (such as granite and marble), reclaimed oak, stainless steel, concrete, and brass. Complementing the polished and sleek architecture is the bespoke brutalist furniture, curated by Slimane himself. The store also features a bronze sculpture by internationally renowned French artist, Hedva Ser, entitled ‘L’Lelan’.
Among the French Maison’s signature leather goods and clothing that can be purchased in-store, one of the key items to look out for this season is the Celine Triomphe Shoulder Bag. The youthful and fashionable shoulder bag was featured in the brand’s recent Summer 2021 Fashion Show, and has since gained attraction from its campaign, modelled by K-pop girl-group Blackpink’s Lisa.
Another item to keep on your radar is the unisex, cross-body Triangle bag from ‘The Dancing Kid’ collection. The playful and versatile bag is small but makes a bold statement with any outfit. Emblazoned with the bold Celine logo on the front, the bag has become a popular accessory among teens and young celebrities.
