The Singapore Food Festival Crosses Over To Malaysia With An Epic Two-Month Culinary Event

On the occasion of the 29th edition of the Singapore Food Festival, the Singapore Tourism Board has decided to launch a novel ‘Passport to Feast’, a way for Malaysia’s foodies to partake in the many delightful offerings from the island’s burgeoning F&B talent. To make it doubly interesting, this two-month-long culinary crossover event also seeks out the best Malaysia has to offer, knitting a tapestry of cross-border collaborations which will surely be the epicurean toast of the town.

“We often travel in search of food that enables us to enjoy memorable experiences in a particular destination,” says John Conceicao, Executive Director, Southeast Asia, Singapore Tourism Board at the recent launch of Passport to Feast at Four Seasons Kuala Lumpur. “Singapore’s dining scene continues to evolve and in the last two years and has grown to include new, innovative, and reimagined experiences, encompassing traditional tastes and international flavours. We welcome visitors from Malaysia back to taste the new, the unexpected and the transformed, and to indulge in our shared obsession for food.”

To kick-off the series of crossovers, the period of 11 August to 6 September will offer nine Singapore chefs and mixologists present at nine renowned Malaysian bar and dining establishments; Tanglin Gin at Bar Trigona and Blue at EQ, Mustard Seed at Table & Apron, ATLAS at JungleBird, The Elephant Room at Pahit, Nutmeg & Clove at Else, Kausmo at Cuiscene, Analogue as well as Native at Reka:Bar, and Restaurant Born at Dewakan.
From September 9 to September 18, and in conjunction with Tiffin At The Yard, a Singapore-themed food marketplace will take place with food pop-ups as well as private kitchen dining experiences from Scaled by Ah Hua Kelong and Chef Sarah Huang Benjamin.

This year’s Singapore Food Festival – which starts from 24 August and runs till 11 September – was conceived to showcase traditional and contemporary fare, with chef collaborations and sustainable creations to spice-blending workshops and urban farm tours. Over 70 gastronomic experiences takes place with a Festival Village located at the Bayfront Event Space featuring 25 food establishments such as the Michelin Bib Gourmand One Prawn & Co collaboration with heritage brand Hock Lian Huat presenting a prawn bisque and five-spiced meat rolls.

Nine free-to-view virtual masterclasses on the Singapore Food Festival Facebook page feature some pretty big names including a four hands collaboration between Asia’s Best Pastry Chef 2022 Maira Yeo from two-Michelin star Cloudstreet and Chef Justin Lee of JL Dessert Bar in Seoul. Food kits can also be purchased from the Singapore Food Festival website to enrich the experience.

A partnership with Trip.com – the Singapore Food Festival’s official travel partner will even offer Malaysian foodies promotions to head to Singapore with attractive deals timed to coincide with Passport to Feast events. Travellers received RM50 off flight tickets and 20 per cent off tours and attraction tickets in Singapore from 12th August onwards with Trip.com for the duration of the festival.
