The New Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8’s 4:3 Aspect Ratio Display Is Reshaping The Tech Landscape

Seven years ago, Samsung took the tech world by storm with its launch of the Galaxy Fold, bringing foldable phones into the mainstream. The flagship Z Fold helped popularise the classic book-style inward folding design throughout successive generations, and the latest ones have not been unveiled for the second half of 2026. The launch includes three new phones, making it the most complete line-up yet, featuring the Z Fold 8 (from RM7,299), Z Fold Ultra (from RM8,099) and Z Flip 8 (from RM5,399).

At the centre of this slew of new releases is the Z Fold 8, one of the most uniquely shaped phones currently on the market. Coming in with a main screen at 7.6in unfolded, it forgoes the standard near-square (10:9) displays found in older generations, opting for 4:3 aspect ratio instead. This horizontal orientation makes it more suited to a variety of media, including games and films. Physically rotating it brings its dimensions closer to an e-reader, making it ideal for reading long articles and e-books. The 10:16 cover screen, in the meantime, is much closer to the standard smartphone experience and is great for messaging, quick browsing, and making things like short videos—all without needing to unfold it.  It is powered by a 4800mAh battery and has dual 50-megapixel cameras for high-resolution shooting and filming.

Meanwhile, the Z Fold Ultra continues the tradition of book-style foldables, boasting a sizable 8-inch main display. Designed for productivity, it has an impressive 200MP main camera, which, paired with a comprehensive suite of creative tools, gives creators more freedom to capture and edit on a single device.  It is also the slimmest Z Fold design ever, only 4.1mm thick when unfolded and weighing just 215g. It is equipped with a 5000mAh battery, and is powered by a Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 processor for performance, and an expanded graphite cooling structure to help keep things cool.

Finally, in the flip category comes the Z Flip 8, arguably one of the most aesthetically pleasing compact phones ever released. It is Samsung’s slimmest and lightest flip phone, weighing only 180g with a 6.1mm thickness. 

All three Galaxy Z releases feature Samsung’s state-of-the-art Flex Titanium technology, involving a titanium-alloy film and titanium placed under its OLED screen, made to withstand repeated folding and minimise the dreaded middle crease.
