There isn’t a more electrifying party anywhere in the world than the Rio Carnival, from 2 to 9 March. Lasting one week before the abstinence of Lent, an estimated two million people fill the streets by 7am everyday, drink in hand and a samba shuffle in their feet.
But the most glamorous party, the one that makes everyone unashamedly covet thine neighbours’ fortunes, is the Carnival Ball of the Copacabana Palace on 2 March. None is more sumptuous and Rio’s elites religiously observe each year’s theme, which in 2019 is ‘Dolce Carnivale’ – an homage to the baroque charm and influence of Italy.
The hotel itself is a Brazilian institution, with a long history serving royalties of three persuasions – bonafide blue-bloods, rock stars, and Hollywoodian. For one night only, the famous Golden Ballroom will be transformed into St Mark’s Square of Venice, with live performers throughout its art deco spaces until dawn or the last reveller leaves.
One of the most iconic scenes from which to enjoy the party is the hotel’s spectacular veranda. Overlooking the pulsating Copacabana Beach and its tireless multitudes, you’ll enjoy the best Italian delicacies and never-ending glasses of Aperol Spritz and Prosecco. Take a cue from us and order a Bellini, as famously served at Belmond Hotel Cipriani located where else but in Venice.
Room packages for a four-night stay at Belmond Copacabana Palace start from USD4,930++, based on twin sharing whilst Dolce Carnevale tickets are priced upwards of USD560 per person. For more information, please call +65 6908 0698 or email tania@petriepr.com
