HSBC Malaysia Welcomes its Premier Elite Customers to the Brand New Day Performance
JCPAC opens its doors to HSBC Malaysia's Premier Elite customers for a star-studded symphonic Broadway concert in the heart of Sunway City Kuala Lumpur.
Some evenings stay with us long after the last light fades. This October, one such evening unfolded in the heart of Sunway City, Kuala Lumpur.
Guests who stepped into the newly opened Jeffrey Cheah Performing Arts Centre (JCPAC) got to watch the curtains rise for the Brand New Day: A Symphonic Broadway Celebration performance. HSBC Malaysia was the first to join hands with JCPAC through its partnership with Sunway Group, and that meant its Premier Elite customers were among the very first audiences to experience the stage.

The venue aims to become Malaysia’s premier home for the performing arts, with JCPAC’s Grand Theatre boasting a 1,200-seat proscenium auditorium with faceted timber walls and ceilings. The design tells a local story. It draws on the tin-mining landscape on which Sunway City was built, recalling the terraces, exposed earth, and water channels of the area’s industrial past.
For the inaugural performance, 104 artists took to the stage: 22 singers, eight dancers, and the Tutan Festival Orchestra, a collective of professional Malaysian musicians led by conductor Kevin Field. An ensemble of principal vocalists joined them, including British-Malaysian actor Stephen Rahman-Hughes; Malaysia’s own “Queen of Belt, Banter, and Bless,” Elvira Arul; and performer Sean Ghazi, who also directed the concert.
Across two 40-minute acts, the production brought together familiar favourites from Broadway and the West End, with stirring renditions of Les Misérables, The Phantom of the Opera, West Side Story, Wicked, Dreamgirls and The Greatest Showman.
HSBC Malaysia country head of international wealth and premier banking, Linda Yip, said a great musical has the power to not only introduce audiences to new perspectives, but also create memories that remain long after the curtain falls.
“Tonight’s performance promises to do exactly that, brought to life in this state-of-the-art theatre with its outstanding facilities and world-class acoustics. And experiences such as this become even more meaningful when shared with family, friends and loved ones. Just like wealth and financial legacies that can be passed from one generation to the next, so too can our passions—including a love of music, the arts and culture,” said Yip.

HSBC’s commitment lies not only in helping its plan for the future, but also in being present today—nurturing community, celebrating connection and creating experiences that resonate.
