The Malaysian Institute of Management Celebrates Its Diamond Jubilee With A Spectacular Royal Gala

Last month, the Malaysian Institute of Management (MIM) welcomed guests into the banquet halls of The Majestic Hotel Kuala Lumpur in celebration of its 60th anniversary. The momentous occasion brought together 700 distinguished guests in an extravagant royal gala event, including the Sultan of Selangor, Duli Yang Maha Mulia Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah Alhaj, and the Tengku Permaisuri of Selangor, Duli Yang Maha Mulia Tengku Permaisuri Hajah Norashikin, as the royal guests of honour.

In her opening address (pictured on the cover), MIM President YBhg. Dato’ Yeoh Soo Min reflected on MIM’s enduring legacy over the last six decades. “MIM has faced change, uncertainty, and difficult moments. Yet, through every period, it has remained guided by one enduring purpose. To strengthen management, develop capable leaders, and contribute to the progress of Malaysia.”

Since 1966, MIM has emboldened over one million professionals across 5,000 public and private sector organisations. What started as a voluntary society has now evolved into one of Malaysia’s premier professional management bodies.

“The true legacy of MIM cannot be measured only through numbers, progress, or publications. It is measured through people. Some came to MIM to learn, some returned to teach, but many came to lead. The greatest legacy of the institution is not what it keeps for itself, but what it develops in others,” she added. “As the first woman to serve as the President of MIM, I accept this responsibility with humility and with deep respect for everyone who has built the path before me. My responsibility is not simply to preserve MIM’s history; it is to ensure that this history remains relevant to the future.”

Following this, MIM’s prestigious Conferment Ceremony of the Court of Emeritus Fellows (CoEF) was presented by H.R.H. Sultan of Selangor and YBhg. Dato’ Yeoh Soo Min on stage, honouring five distinguished individuals for their exceptional leadership and accomplishments in Malaysia. The award was conferred upon YM Tunku Muinuddin Putra Tunku Ahmad Nerang, YBhg. Datuk P. Kamalanathan A/L Panchanathan, YBhg. CP (R) Dato’ Dr. Lee Bee Phang, YBhg. Dato’ Yong Yoon Li, and YBhg. Datuk (Dr.) Yvonne Chia.

As the night unfolded, MIM reasserted its commitment to developing competent, future-ready leaders across the nation, welcoming its seventh decade, and marking a new era for the institution.
