A wedding is one of life’s most cherished milestones, and objects from the day, from bouquets preserved as art to invitations framed as keepsakes, often hold sentimental value long after the festivities end. Award-winning mattress maker Gethá offers a different way to commemorate the occasion through its Wedding & Blessing collection, With Love, Gethá, that will remain part of a couple’s home, offering comfort each night long after the celebrations have ended.

The Transforme Miracle Latex Primefibre Mattress includes the Suprelle Cool Night Fibrefill technology, a quilting layer under the cover that releases heat faster, for a cooler, fresher feel through the night.

The collection features two of Gethá’s bestselling mattresses, the Transforme Miracle Latex Mattress and Transforme Miracle Latex Primefibre Mattress, reimagined as bridal beds with auspicious symbols embroidered onto the panel at the foot of each mattress.

Among the 12 motifs are 囍 (double happiness), a traditional emblem of marital joy, and 愛 (love), each carrying its own significance for the couple’s life ahead. The designs can also be personalised through custom embroidery with the couple’s names or custom wedding logos at an additional cost, extending the concept beyond Chinese wedding traditions to reflect the diverse cultural practices of Malaysian society. For couples who wish to embrace the tradition of a red bed, which carries the meaning of 喜床 (happiness bed) beyond wedding celebrations, characters such as 發 (prosperity), 財 (wealth) and 福 (blessing) offer auspicious alternatives that symbolise good fortune and abundance.

Kevin Tan, project director of Gethá Malaysia, says, “When researching the concept, we found that wedding mattresses featuring auspicious Chinese symbols were uncommon. In fact, we believe that it may be the first of its kind in the world. Traditionally, these motifs appear on wedding bedsheets, which couples may use for the first few nights of their marriage before putting them away. The idea is that couples rediscover the embroidery whenever they change their bedsheets. It becomes a small reminder of their wedding, their love, and how far they have come together.” This distinction is further underscored by the collection’s recognition by the Malaysia Book of Records as the country’s ‘First Chinese Wedding Mattress’.

The brand logo illustrates the concept of living together. The “leaf” signifies sustainable green living, and “two” water droplets represent unity and harmony—“Leaf-Two-Gethá” conceptualises Gethá’s values, mission, and vision.

Gethá’s vision for the collection extends beyond its sentimental value to the comfort beneath the embroidery. Tan shares, “The collection incorporates our Miracle Latex technology, which took eight years of research and development. According to tests conducted by the Malaysian Rubber Board, our Miracle Latex can stretch up to 410 per cent, compared with approximately 220 to 230 per cent for conventional latex. This elasticity allows the material to respond to movement and provide support. The mattresses also feature BioCool, our natural cooling technology developed using sugarcane fibres, alongside our nano-silver antibacterial technology and anti-static protection. These innovations reflect our wider aim of helping people sleep more comfortably in Malaysia’s tropical climate.”

Each mattress is accompanied by a complimentary pair of red Double Happiness cushions, echoing the auspicious colour and symbolism associated with Chinese weddings. Also available is the Gethá four-piece Tencel Nano Silver Bedsheet Set in red, offering a coordinated finishing touch to the bedroom.

Twice The Joy

The launch of With Love, Gethá was held concurrently with the opening of the Gethá Sleep Therapy Centre at Gurney Plaza, Penang, in keeping with the collection’s theme of double happiness, symbolising two meaningful occasions celebrated together.  All Gethá stores are designed as Sleep Therapy Centres, where customers can find mattresses, pillows, and other sleep accessories suited to their needs.

Each centre considers the five senses, from touch through mattresses and pillows, to taste with chamomile tea and a water flask, scent through aromatherapy oils and room sprays, sight with eye masks, and sound with earplugs. Together, these elements create a more considered environment for customers to explore ways to improve their sleep.

Beyond the collection itself, Gethá’s story is rooted in a global ambition to showcase Malaysian craftsmanship. “Gethá was founded in 1969 with the vision of bringing Malaysian rubber to the world stage. The name Gethá comes from getah, the Malay word for rubber. Malaysia has long been known for its natural rubber, and we wanted to demonstrate that the country could produce world-class finished products, not just raw materials. Our products are proudly manufactured in Malaysia, including those sold in 28 countries, and we manage our production in-house,” adds Tan.

For Tan, this commitment to craftsmanship also informs his understanding of luxury, which extends beyond a product’s appearance to the experience it offers. “Luxury is often associated with watches, jewellery, and clothing. To me, it is about how something makes you feel, both visually and through the experience of using it. With a Gethá mattress, the experience goes beyond its appearance. It is about the support you receive while sleeping and, ultimately, how rested you feel when you wake up. Being able to enjoy that comfort in your own home, whenever you need it, is a luxury in itself,” Tan reflects.

Available in King and Queen sizes, the two models are priced from RM8,999 to RM13,999, with bespoke dimensions of up to 5m by 5m available for those seeking a larger format. For more info, visit the website.
