Smeg x Dolce & Gabbana = sunny fun in the kitchen

all things bright and beautiful

We are certainly fans of Dolce & Gabbana’s sunnier, more vibrant disposition – a far cry from dreary black Sicilian widow lace of yore. And, it appears, so too is Italian appliance manufacturer Smeg. After marrying the colourful motifs by Dolce & Gabbana with its iconic refrigerator last year, Smeg has enlisted the help of the Italian duo again for the ‘Sicily is my love’ collection.

Rather than one big, albeit spacious, fridge, the new Smeg x Dolce & Gabbana line focuses on smaller kitchen appliances. This includes toasters, juicers, coffee machines, kettles, blenders and mixers, all jazzed up with bright Sicilian patterns. There are five prints in all, ranging from lemons and cherries, florals and landscapes of the island, Mount Etna, the ruins of the Greek temple of Castor and Pollux in the Valley of the Temples, and the famous Sicilian trinacria. Debuting at this year’s Salone del Mobile di Milano, the full collection will be launched in October. It probably won’t cost as much as the one-of-a-kind fridges – a cool US$34,000 (RM145,000) – but such a radiant collection definitely deserves a pretty penny.
