Sometimes, bespoke cocktail bars just won’t make the cut (for this moment at least). Not when your idea of a relaxing mid-week watering hole comes in the form of a private area — better yet, if it’s by-invite only — as you savour the most coveted Champagnes and whiskies.
Cheers to that, we say. Here’s our list of the most exclusive experiences open to a select few, of which, one requires the right connections for you to gain access.
1. Dom Perignon P2 suite
No stranger to exclusivity (or sweeping views of a city), 1-Altitude now houses The Dom Perignon P2 suite, a first of its kind in Singapore. The suite offers members not just the best Champagnes the brand has to offer, but more importantly, a unique Ultimate Champagne experience that includes pre-dinner drinks, and a private dinner complete with Champagne pairings.
The suite can be booked for both intimate gatherings and business meetings. Start on the 1-Altitude rooftop with a glass of Dom Perignon P2 vintage 1998 and some Sturia caviar. When you’ve torn yourself away from magnificent views, you’ll be escorted to through hallowed hallways in black and gold that ultimately lead to the suite. Expect to be treated to an orchestration of unique flavours by executive chef Christopher Millar. Called the ‘Plenitudes Garden’, your meal will be paired with various Champagnes, each food pairing curated by multi-Michelin-star chef Alain Ducasse.

Houses reflect personalities of owners, and if we had to conclude the personality of the owner of the Johnnie Walker Houses around the world, our best bet would be, ‘a man with eclectic tastes, and knows exactly what he wants, no matter how crazy it may seem’.
Step into each ‘house’ and you’ll be transported to various realms that reflect a theme of “whisky conversations". In Singapore, the house is located at the Diageo office and provides a private suite for those who wish to relax after a day’s work. Form bonds with other members as you sip on blended and single Scotch whiskies, limited-edition releases Brora and Port Ellen, and the John Walker & Sons Master Blenders collection.
Members include fine whisky enthusiasts and private collectors who travel around the globe in search for the rarest drams. Have a question or two? The House will link you with its dedicated team of whisky experts — albeit virtually — and advice on the best pairings. You’ll also gain insight on Diageo’s distilleries and blending rooms.
The club also offers members invitations to private events, exclusive offers and priority purchases on selected items, as well as VIP treatment at The Gleneagles Hotel in Scotland.
Fret not if you’ve yet to be invited by the whisky giant as a member. You can always look for a trusted pal (who’s already a member) and get him/her to refer you.

3. Krug Room
Location: Hong Kong
The Krug Room at Mandarin Oriental, Hong Kong – recreated in 2013 – is the literal manifestation of a gastronome’s retreat.
Inside this dining room, one may gaze upon the many special editions of Krug, some of which have been signed by members of the Krug family. Among the vintages available for purchase are the 1988 Vintage (HK$9,000, RM4,950) and the 1990 Collection (HK$10,800, RM5,940). Of course, an experience in this room would not be complete without a pairing to food, what with Krug being a champagne created to have its own distinctive taste.
In this restaurant of only 12 seats, the epicurean odyssey is curated by a team of culinary artists from Mandarin Oriental, Hong Kong, who offer 10 to 14 dinner courses. Its current Spring menu offers a selection of dinner pairings starting from the Krug Classic Package (HK$2,688, RM1480 per guest) to the Krug Ultimate Vintage Package where diners enjoy four glasses of Krug comprising the Grande Cuvee, 1990 Collection, Vintage 1990 and Vintage 2002.
The food menu reflects the many notes found within the artistic and complex champagne that is Krug, and is also inflected by springtime’s bounty. Among them are a biscuit with smoked eel and cream, foie gras mushroom gateaux, scallop and caviar tart, langoustines dressed in yuzu, Barbary duck in honey and a beef course flavoured with pine and ash.
Each dish comes on a specially designed plate by Hong Kong’s contemporary artist, playwright, director and novelist Fung Ming Chip.
