7 Places To Have A Proper Christmas Meal With The Works This Festive Season

‘Tis the season to enjoy traditional festive foods. Here are seven places that promises a sensorial feast for you and your loved ones.

The revamped Mandarin Grill serves a delicious six-course dinner (RM498 per person; plus RM175 for wine pairing) come Christmas Eve. Highlights include a sage and kale risotto, cooked with a mix of parmesan and pecorino cheeses and served with a drizzle of cranberry sauce, and a slow cooked venison loin with a slightly tangy blueberry sauce. For a lavish buffet spread, there’s a festive seafood buffet dinner spread at Mosaic (RM198 per person), from now until December 21, and a boozy Sunday prosecco brunch option (RM298 per person with two-hour free flow) until December 22.

Exceptional service and outstanding cuisine are the hallmarks of a classic St. Regis Christmas, which continues piling on the decadence this year with its lavish menus, take-home roasted turkeys (from RM698), and holiday trunks (from RM518) stuffed with edible goodies. Throughout the month of December, The Drawing Room will offer a festive afternoon tea (from RM158 per person) complete with Christmas cakes, and on December 14 and 15, the poolside will open for the annual St. Regis Family Traditions afternoon in the sun. The Ritz-Carlton, Kuala Lumpur marks the Christmas season with three celebrations. On Christmas Eve, a lavish four-course dinner (RM300 per person, RM450 per person with wine pairing) will be crafted by YTL’s Executive Chef Wai. Two menus are available, with the traditional menu featuring highlights such as chicory wood-smoked ocean trout with pickled cornichon, boiled potatoes, hanukah honey and dill dressing, and a selection of turkey and wagyu beef from the carving trolley. The vegetarian menu can also expect gastronomical wonders the likes of sautéed Swiss brown mushrooms with arugula tossed with hazelnut and macadamia dressing and spiced heirloom tomato soup with crumbled fried artisan cheese. The hotel’s famed afternoon tea (RM80 per person) at The Lobby Lounge receives a festive twist from now until the end of the year with traditional year-end desserts and delectable favourites – chocolate Yule log, English fruit cake, Christmas pudding, mixed berry Breton, gingerbread Santa, Scotch eggs and baked cranberry scones.

On December 24 and 45, ATAS Modern Malaysian Eatery at The RuMa Hotel & Residences reinterprets Christmas classics with a five-course dinner (RM288 nett per person). The menu will see infuse local influences and ingredients into luxe fare – roasted lobster with calamari, clam, long coriander and coconut broth, as well as warm Christmas pudding and honey comb ice cream. If brunch is more your thing, the restaurant will also throw a buffet on Christmas Day (RM395 nett per person; RM515 nett per person inclusive of alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages), featuring local favourites alongside festive foods – rendang spiced black angus, percik chicken, strawberry angel gateaux buche de noel, and ginger mango panna cotta.

Favola at Le Méridien Kuala Lumpur celebrates Christmas Eve with Italian delicacies (RM318 nett per person; RM348 nett with a glass of prosecco). Enjoy chicken and black truffle tortellini with consommé and julienne of vegetables and red garoupa “occones”, artichokes, black olives, Sardinian fregula light saffron broth and fresh mint. Well-known steakhouse Prime will also have a Christmas Eve dinner (RM388 nett per person; RM428 nett per person with a glass of champagne) that will satisfy your craving for quality beef, with dishes like the 21-days dry-aged Australian wagyu beef tenderloin with fresh fig, foie gras mousse, copper onion and celeriac arrancini.

Sofitel Kuala Lumpur Damansara’s Christmas feast is inspired by the world of haute couture, recreating timeless French elegance with a special afternoon tea (RM120 nett for two persons) and festive cocktails (RM40 nett per glass). For a more casual Christmas Eve and Day spread, Kwee Zeen (RM228 nett per person; RM468 nett per person with free flow beer, wine and sparkling wine) will serve a mix of local (Indian and Malay) and classic Christmas dishes and desserts. Take a step back in time this Christmas Eve at Colonial Cafe and enjoy a traditional Christmas dinner (RM280 nett per person; RM380 nett per person with wine pairing) that will serve must-haves like mulled wine, roasted turkey and homemade yule log. The Majestic Hotel Kuala Lumpur’s famous Tea Lounge also receives a Christmas makeover with tea sets (RM70 nett; RM120 nett at The Orchid Conservatory), while the property will also serve a special men’s afternoon tea called The Gentlemen’s Experience (RM80 nett per person) to recreate 1930s decadence. This consists of a selection of canapés with coffee and tea, topped with a tankard of beer.
