Glenfiddich Unveils Grand Yozakura, A Limited-Edition 29-Year-Old Whisky In A Rare Ex-Awamori Cask

A recent soiree held at Sentul Pavilion Kuala Lumpur saw the launch of Glenfiddich’s newest Grand Yozakura, a 29-year-old single malt scotch whisky. Finished in a rare Japanese ex-Awamori cask, the Grand Yozakura is the latest edition to be released within the renowned Glenfiddich Grand Series. This limited-edition whisky was matured at the Glenfiddich Distillery in Dufftown and finished in oak casks that were once used to mature the oldest distilled alcoholic spirit in Japan, known as Awamori. Made using long-grain indica rice, the Awamori was traditionally stored in clay pots and matured in oak casks. Today, the Grand Yozakura celebrates Hanami, a cherry blossom festival that is best experienced after dark, hence its name ‘Yozakura’ or ‘night sakura’. This rare whisky kicks off with a surge of ripe fruits and caramelised onions that fill the nose, followed by toasted oak and creamy vanilla mingled with spice and sherbet, before finishing on a final crescendo of oak.

This Ulysse Nardin Watch Has Silicon In Not Just The Tourbillon, But The Dial As Well

The shimmering blue backdrop of the Ulysse Nardin Blast Free Wheel Marquetry (RM585,000) is, in fact, silicon—103 pieces of it, in a combination of two different thicknesses and matt- and mirror-polishing to produce a scintillating effect. The material may be contemporary, but the artistry behind it is more traditional—each silicon sliver is less than half a millimetre thick and quite fragile, requiring great care and skill to assemble. Not to be outdone by the dial is the UN-176 movement, which won the manufacture a GPHG award in 2015. Consisting of a flying tourbillon at 6 o’clock, and equipped with a constant force escapement, its various components are mounted in such a way as they seem to float midair. It has a seven-day power reserve with an indicator at 4 o’clock. The white gold Blast case is 45mm in diameter and has an ultra-modern cut to its brashly faceted lugs along with a tall-sided sapphire crystal that facilitates unobstructed viewing of the dial.
