Savour All The Thai-Malay Cuisine You Can From The Ritz-Carlton, Kuala Lumpur Ramadan Buffet This 2024

The Ritz-Carlton, Kuala Lumpur aims to celebrate the diverse culture and flavours of Malaysia this Ramadan. They are, as they say, ‘Puttin’ On A Ritzy Festive Feast’ this fasting month with authentic Thai-Malay cuisine at The Cobalt Room. The buffet spread welcomes guests with various types of Thai-Malay dishes, purely local flavours, a western-inspired roast section and, of course, an appetisers island, as well as a fridge full of local and eastern desserts.

This year’s Ramadan buffet is specially curated by Thai master chef Rasikan from SHOOK! at The Starhill Dining. The culinary inspiration comes from her creations at the Pak Tai restaurant, located in The Ritz-Carlton, Koh Samui. This year, she aims to bring the perfect blend of authentic southern Thai and Malay flavours to the table.

In the main section, you will find a mixture of authentic Thai food and Thai-Malay meats. Start with some Thai green curry chicken, Thai red curry prawns, sweet and sour fish, dark sauce beef, and stir-fry eggplant. On the other side, there is a noodle station and grilled meat section.

The next island features a wide spread of dishes cooked with different ingredients and flavours from all over Malaysia, including highlights from Perlis, Kelantan, Terengganu, Penang, Malacca, Johor as well as Sabah and Sarawak. If you’re a fan of local appetisers, there’s Pecal Sotong & Kangkung, Kerabu Kacang Botol Peranakan, Acar Buah, and Umai to whet your appetite before tucking into the mains.

Start with local favourites like Sambal Udang Petai, Ikan Patin Masak Tempoyak, Pecal Sotong & Kangkung, and Assam Pedas Ikan Tenggiri. They go best with the shrimp paste fried rice. If you’re a big fan of spice, don’t miss out on the spicy-sour mackerel, catfish with fermented durian, fried beef lungs, Kelantan Ayam Perchik, and Perak Rendang Daging ‘Tok’.

Then, head over to the local roast section and try the Sarawak Sotong Goreng Lada Hitam, Sabah Ayam Masak Berlada, and Penang Kari Kambing, and grab a handful of beef satay, grilled prawns, squid and roast beef served with onion and mint sauce along the way.

Finish off at the cold section with a Thai milk tea—only lightly sweetened with a whole lot of tea aroma—as you browse the selection of western-inspired desserts such as pandan cheesecake, Creme Caramel, grape and mango jelly, chocolate mousse, Panna Cotta with mango compote, Black Forest cake, Tiramisu, and fruit tarts. For some authentic local flavours, there is Ondeh-Ondeh, Sago Gula Melaka, Sarawak Kek Lapis, Dodol, kuih bakar, Kuih Seri Muka, Tapai Ubi, Tepung Pelita, Kuih Koci, Cucur Badak, and plenty more to end your meal on a sweet note.

The Puttin’ On A Ritzy Festive Feast Ramadan Buffet is at The Cobalt Room, Level 1, in The Ritz-Carlton, Kuala Lumpur until 9 April 2024.
