Roche Bobois, the luxury French furniture brand, brings a refreshing, vibrant approach to Malaysian homes with the debut of its first showroom in Bangsar, adding to their portfolio of 260 showrooms across 55 countries around the world. Sporting a large selection of renowned names, such as Sacha Lakic and Joana Vasconcelos, the brand also features collaborative works with iconic designers and couture houses such as Kenzō Takada and Jean Paul Gaultier.
“Each Roche Bobois product embodies the heritage and creativity of a brand born in Paris—the capital of the arts, fashion, gastronomy, and of French art de vivre,” says Guillaume Demulier, CEO of the Roche Bobois Group. “With more than 60 years of expertise and creativity, we are thrilled to contribute to the thriving luxury sector of this vibrant city by adding a touch of French art de vivre.”
At the grand opening of its showroom, guests explored the 408 sq m unit showcasing an impressive display of Roche Bobois’ designs. Large bay windows and high ceilings provide an airy and open atmosphere, while sleek wooden claustras and vegetal walls add a flair of natural elegance.
By the entrance, Sacha Lakic’s signature Bubble sofas make a striking impression on anyone who walks through the door. Designed back in 2014, the sofas are inspired by natural mineral forms and is entirely handmade in Europe. The collection comes in cutting-edge Techno 3D fabric, soft Orsetto bouclette fabric, and its newest addition sees the luxe Câlin fabric with a teddy-style feel, carefully selected to perfectly maintain its iconic rounded shape.
Along the way, discover the innovative Lift, a hexagonal bar unit also designed by Sacha Lakic. The mini bar cleverly stores bottles and easily transforms into a stylish side table with a remote control. Another intriguing piece that wowed guests is the Astrolab glass dining table, created by the Roche Bobois in-house design department. The table boasts a clockwork mechanism reminiscent of the intricate workings inside a watch. The remarkable showpiece functions to reveal hidden extensions that seamlessly increases the table’s surface area.
Standing out as a stunning centrepiece of the showroom is the Mah Jong sofa by German designer, painter and sculptor, Hans Hopfer, dubbed the inventor of seating landscapes. The Mah Jong dates back to 1971, yet remains incredibly trendy with its ultra-modular design. It allows for multiple configurations, transforming from an armchair to a large sofa, lounge chair and even a bed. Throughout the years, the Mah Jong has been given a contemporary upgrade with new designer upholstery by Kenzō Takada, as well as other variations from Missoni Home and Jean Paul Gaultier.
Cléo Guitton, Area Manager of Roche Bobois, summarises the brand into four simple words: “Creation, collaboration, quality, and innovation”—a succinct statement that says it all.
