From bustling city streets to unwanted construction noises that plague every corner of KL, we’re all looking for the perfect pair of headphones to drown out the noise during our daily commute.

But noise-cancelling is only the first battle; the way the headphones sit on your ears and how it sounds as you listen to your favourite song on repeat can make or break the experience. Finding a pair of headphones that hit all three criteria can seem impossible. But after trying out the flagship Bowers & Wilkins Px8 S2 (RM3,299) headphones, I can say that this isn’t as far-fetched as it may seem.

A Stylish & Intuitive Design

Straight out of the box, the first thing that stands out about the Bowers & Wilkins Px8 S2 is its slick, stylish design. The headphones come in four colours: Midnight Blue, Pearl Blue, Onyx Black and Warm Stone.

Its intuitive and simple design also makes for an easy set-up without much hassle. With integrated Apple MFi Made For iPhone support and Google Fast Pair, I was able to easily connect the Px8 S2’sto my laptop and phone with a simple touch of the Bluetooth button.

Utmost Comfort & The Most Minimal of Noise

Weighing only 310 grams, the headphone’s fine nappa leather ear cups and headband, and solid die-cast aluminium arms feel almost weightless on my ears. Its high-performance DSP, dedicated amplifier/DAC and true 24-bit audio connection also mean that nothing gets lost in translation, allowing for a fully immersive listening experience. The intimate soundstage of these headphones is almost mystical in the way it transports me back in time and place. As a J-pop fan, I can say that the vocal layering and lyrics from Watashi by SixTONES play with utmost clarity, the warmth of its melancholic piano engulfing me.

Of course, its active noise cancelling also works wonders. Even the sound of rain outside my window quietly disappears. While the thundering outside still managed to seep through even the most upbeat of songs, its muted tone barely left an impression as I danced along to my favourite music. Its ambient pass-through mode is also a nice touch, allowing me to stay aware while the music keeps going. And, if something needs attending to, the Bowers & Wilkins Px8 S2 auto-pauses when you lift them up, making conversing on-the-go so much easier. With 30 hours of playback, and needing only a 15-minute charge for 7 hours, these headphones are also pretty convenient, and are one of my top picks.
