Bang & Olufsen Has Just Unveiled a New Wool-Covered Speaker
The new Beosound A9 retails for roughly US$5,000.
Bang & Olufsen and Kvadrat are getting even cosier.
The two Danish powerhouses, who have enjoyed a decade-long relationship, teamed up once again to create a new version of the Beosound A9 speaker covered in a custom fabric known as “Woolscape.”
Created especially for B&O by Kvadrat’s knitted textile brand, Kvadrat Febrik, and Swedish design duo Sofia Lagerkvist and Anna Lindgren of Front studio, Woolscape is inspired by the textures, structures, and colours found across the Nordic landscape.
“With this textile, we wanted to explore how fragments of the natural world could be brought into our domestic environments,” Renee Mercks, creative director at Kvadrat Febrik, said in a statement.

To create Woolscape, Front photographed and 3-D-scanned natural textures and forms before turning them into a double-knitted upholstery textile. The resulting fabric was turned into a cover for the Beosound A9. It was tested and refined to ensure the weave and construction did not impact the speaker’s acoustic performance.
To recap, the Beosound A9 is equipped with no less than seven custom-built drivers and two tweeters that deliver its full 33 Hz to 25 kHz frequency range. B&O says the speaker delivers clear vocals, crisp instrumentation, deep bass, and enough volume to fill any room.
The Beosound A9 has been dressed in many different covers, including a technicolour iteration by bassist MonoNeon. To complement the latest Woolscape cover, which comes in Mineral Red, Black Anthracite, Gold Tone, and Natural Aluminium, the speaker and its brushed aluminium legs feature a new Sienna Brown finish.

“With Sienna Brown and Woolscape, we saw an opportunity to give Beosound A9 a new character through the dialogue between colour, material and form,” adds Kresten Bjørn Krab-Bjerre, senior director of design at B&O. “The warmth of the Sienna Brown finish complements the rich, tactile quality of Kvadrat’s Woolscape, while the aluminium legs create a considered contrast to the warmth of the colours and softness of the fabrics, reflecting Bang & Olufsen’s expertise in bringing together tactile textiles with refined aluminium.”
The Beosound A9 with Woolscape cover will be available from September 1 through select Bang & Olufsen stores and the B&O website, with a retail price of 3,700 pounds, or about US$5,000. The Woolscape cover alone costs US$315.
