Royal Selangor Visitor Centre Celebrates Its Two Decades With A 12-Hour Jazz Festival

A total of 19 artistes, across four stages and with 12 hours of back-to-back music. The Royal Selangor Visitor Centre’s resplendent jazz festival came and went with great aplomb. This tribute to jazz was part of the year-long celebration of the pewtersmith’s visitor centre.

Held at Royal Selangor’s lush environs, the jazz festival took place on Sunday, July 14th from 10am till 10pm. It attracted an estimated 1,000 guests composed of music aficionados, patrons and its Privileges members as well as Her Royal Highness Tengku Hajah Norashikin who added her royal presence to the day’s merriment.

A star-studded ensemble of household and emerging jazz performers made up the show with the day kicking off with the consummate performance of The Shang Sisters, who brought their particular riff of Nanyang Jazz to the fore. The trio, comprising Janet Lee, Winnie Ho and Mian Tan would send the Royal Selangor Jazz Festival into full swing.

Throughout the day, a non-stop roster of jazz acts thrilled the guests, who also enjoyed a variety of delicious bites from food trucks, as well as the Visitor Centre’s very own café. An assortment of rare vinyl records added to the musical nature of the day, as did souvenir stores, and jam sessions.

Of course, the biggest cheers were reserved for the acts which attracted new fans as well as familiar friends. In order of appearance, the acts which followed The Shang Sisters were; WVC Malaysian Jazz Ensemble, AZ Samad, Tan Jin Weng Quartet, UCSI Ensemble, Tay Cher Siang & Po Ann, Kirana Kay and David Gomes, Jo Quintet, Rizal Tony, Fazz, Tay Cher Siang who then teamed up with AZ Samad, Bona Hop, The Frankie Sixes, JSY, Junji Delfino & WVC Malaysian Jazz Ensemble. Bringing up the rear was songbird Janet Lee backed by the WVC Malaysian Jazz Ensemble – a fitting finale to a wholly entertaining day at the Royal Selangor Visitor Centre.
