In our weekly TWIL series, we bring you the latest in luxury news from around the world. This week’s highlights: Meet the one-off Rolls-Royce Cullinan Daisy edition with custom details, introducing Blancpain’s Ladybird Colours timepiece in royal purple, and more.
The Rolls-Royce Cullinan Daisy Is A One-Off Inspired By A Love For The Outdoors
The Cullinan Daisy is one of the latest one-of-one bespoke models to come from Rolls-Royce Motor Cars. Based on the Black Badge version of the marque’s Cullinan Series II SUV, it was commissioned by a client who has a particular love for a hiking trail in the High Tatra Mountains of Slovakia. The overarching motif of a daisy is present in the interior of the car, but most clearly on the exterior—on the Powder Blue finish, Rolls-Royce’s iconic ornamental Coachline includes a hand-painted flower motif.
Other trim highlights include sandblasted wood veneers, and a custom Starlight Headliner that depicts four particular constellations. It is equipped with a Recreation Module, which deploys from the luggage compartment to allow easy access to the client’s hiking equipment, while the umbrellas concealed in the rear coach doors have their own custom daisy patterning.
Purple Reigns In Blancpain’s New Ladybird Colours Timepiece
In 1933, Betty Fiechter became the first woman to own and lead a Swiss watch house when she took the reins at Blancpain, a role she held until 1967. Under her leadership, Blancpain transformed the landscape of the 1930s by continuing the development of the Rolls, the first automatic wristwatch designed specifically for women. Then, in 1956, the Ladybird was introduced. It featured the smallest round mechanical movement of its time—the R-52, measuring just 11.85 mm—housed in a minimalist case with the winding crown placed on the back. This innovative departure from the era’s norm, where women’s watches were often concealed within elaborate jewellery, set a new precedent. Over the decades, the Ladybird continued to evolve.
Now, the latest addition to the Ladybird Colours collection arrives in a royal purple hue, paired with a matching alligator leather strap and joining an already vivid palette. At the centre of it all lies the nacre perlée dial, crafted from rare, high-quality mother-of-pearl sourced from select cultured shells, each yielding just one or two dials at most. Encased in a 34.9 mm case of 18-carat red or white gold, the timepiece is embellished with more than two carats of diamonds across the dial, bezel, crown, lugs, and buckle. Inside, the automatic calibre 1163L offers a power reserve of more than four days. Marking the hours and minutes are Blancpain’s signature openwork sage leaf-shaped hands.
