Poltrona Frau Imagines A Fifth Season In Its New Collection

From reimaginations to fresh ideas, these are the highlights of the collection.

The four seasons have inspired our lives in more ways than one—whether through fashion trends or interior choices. This year, the Italian luxury home label Poltrona Frau draws inspiration from that familiar theme to introduce The Five Seasons collection. Rather than following the traditional four, the fifth season is one open to interpretation—meant to be defined by you. If you’re drawn to the warmth of autumnal hues with the cool minimalism of winter, or think spring blossoms and dark earthy depth make a good combination, Poltrona Frau embraces this freedom of expression.

“Everyone can find their own solution, according to their personal view of the world,” says Nicola Coropulis, CEO of Poltrona Frau. “It is also a way to express our versatility.”

Among the most eye-catching pieces in the collection is the iconic Dezza armchair by legendary designer Gio Ponti. There’s something so captivating about the Dezza that has earned it a permanent place in the brand’s catalogue since its debut. For its 60th anniversary, the Dezza is given a makeover in a limited-edition design. This special edition transforms the classic piece into a true collectible, featuring an archival Ponti illustration of hands—a motif the designer seemed to have a long-standing fascination with. “The idea of hands being able to do many things, to be very versatile, fits perfectly with the concept of The Five Seasons,” Coropulis explains.

Following a successful collaboration last year on the Vanity Fair XC Imagine Edition armchair, Poltrona Frau reunites with Italian design atelier Fornasetti once more. This partnership led Coropulis to realise the brand’s broader potential. “We are very happy to have had the chance to collaborate with Fornasetti, as it enables us to expand our traditional audience and offer a different interpretation of our pieces,” Coropulis says.

This time around, the two brands revisit the archives to bring new life to two re-editions: the 1919 armchair and the Isidoro trunk-bar. The armchair holds a special place in Poltrona Frau history, as it was originally crafted by the brand’s founder, Renzo Frau. It was designed with a historic bergère silhouette and upholstered in lavish capitonné leather. Meanwhile, the Isidoro trunk-bar by Jean-Marie Massaud was brought to life in 2007, but its design channels the nostalgic glamour of the roaring ’20s. In this collaboration with Fornasetti, the two pieces donned a new look cloaked in Poltrona Frau’s Pelle Frau Colorsphere Impact Less leather, printed with the Ultime Notizie, an ethereal Fornasetti pattern created in 1950 by Fornasetti’s founder, Piero Fornasetti. The kaleidoscope of butterflies layered over vintage news clippings creates a fun trompe-l’oeil that gives the leather an almost paper-like texture.

The brand has also partnered with Leica, embracing the future of tech-integrated living. As the world advances, so does Poltrona Frau. Together with the premium camera manufacturer, Poltrona Frau unveils a unique configuration of the Fidelio Multimedia Cabinet by Roberto Lazzeroni. Now, it is adapted to house the Leica Cine 1 smart laser TV—a bestseller in Leica’s portfolio. The central recessed shelf is tailored for the projector placement, with two push-pull drawers flanking each side. It also features a discreet groove to conceal the motorised projection screen when not in use—a gamechanger to the home cinema experience.

Collaborations aren’t the only highlight of The Five Seasons collection. The Blisscape sofa by Ludovica Serafini and Roberto Palomba is a brand-new design that draws inspiration from the feel-good vibe of American singer-songwriter Lou Reed’s 1970s song, Perfect Day. With oversized cushions and high-performance padding, the sofa is made for contemporary living. But what makes it outstanding is the hidden mechanism in the backrest cushions that allows it to adapt to any posture for maximum comfort. “We believe that good design should always be guided by great functionality,” Coropulis says.

Beyond the brand’s freestanding pieces, Coropulis shares Poltrona Frau’s intent to expand its offerings. “We are looking to create broader experiences for our clients,” he states. “When it comes to furnishing new residences, wardrobes and kitchens are the first things chosen. Everything else comes after.” This propelled the launch of the brand’s first bedroom storage system, the DressCove Night System. This modular wardrobe is designed by architect Dante Bonuccelli and can be made into traditional wardrobes or expansive walk-in closets. Its defining feature is rooted in what Poltrona Frau always does best—fine leather craftsmanship.

Through legacy pieces and new launches, The Five Seasons offers an opportunity to reflect on the past, embrace the present, and imagine changes that will benefit the future.
