Why This Thai Wellness Retreat Is the Ultimate End-of-Year Escape

A new season in Chiva-Som Hua Hin promises inner and outer transformation

The true purpose of a journey is not merely to arrive, but to arrive renewed. This principle is the very foundation of Chiva-Som, a destination whose name, ‘Haven of Life’, serves as both a promise and a purpose. This year, the pioneering wellness destination in Hua Hin, Thailand, deepens that commitment with its ‘Retreat and Renew’ programme. From October through to the start of January, Chiva-Som Hua Hin presents a calendar of experiences designed for mindful transformation. It is an invitation to rediscover balance through nourishing food, expert guidance, and the quiet joy of connection.

The journey begins at the table. At The Emerald Room, a new menu called ‘Taste of Indochina’ explores the region’s vibrant flavours. The dishes celebrate the bold spices of Laos, the aromatic herbs of Vietnam, and the bright, citrus notes of Cambodia. This is not about restriction. Chiva-Som’s philosophy reminds guests that health and indulgence can coexist, as each dish blends nourishment with enjoyment. This spirit of connection extends to the restaurant’s terrace, where a new communal table, made from upcycled coconut husks, overlooks the sea. Here, guests are encouraged to put away their devices and reconnect through conversation.

Guidance comes from a roster of world-class visiting practitioners. Lucja Maslowska, a specialist in Chinese medicine, leads sessions on nutrition and the power of breathing to reduce stress. Holistic beauty expert Masa Sugiyama returns to teach her Masa Method, showing how posture correction can provide a natural lift to the face and neck. For those seeking emotional release, holistic healer Sreela Nair hosts joyful classes in Healing Laughter, Chakra Dance, and Colour Meditation.

The resident naturopaths offer deeper insights into the body’s needs. In a talk called ‘Testosterone Thieves’, Patience Sangwa outlines how hormonal balance is key to longevity. She discusses how to optimise testosterone levels to improve mood, cognitive health, and vitality in both men and women. In a separate workshop, Keletso Kelosiwang teaches guests how to measure their health and take control. She explains how to listen to subtle signs, such as headaches or constipation, that may indicate worsening health, helping guests track their progress and identify areas for improvement.

Movement is central to the renewal process. New classes use innovative equipment to build functional strength. YBell Essentials features a versatile weight that acts as a dumbbell, kettlebell, and medicine ball in one dynamic workout. Loaded Movement Training (LMT) uses ViPR tubes for multi-directional exercises that simulate real-life activities, while the AquaX class uses the natural resistance of water for a joint-friendly session that engages the core.

The season is also one of celebration, rooted in Thai tradition. November brings Loy Krathong, a festival where guests float handcrafted krathongs on the water—a symbolic act of letting go of the past with grace. As the year closes, Christmas Eve is marked by a barbecue dinner for a cause, with proceeds supporting children displaced by the unrest in Myanmar. The children serenade guests with carols, a heartfelt reminder of compassion. The year concludes with a New Year’s Eve celebration, and 2026 begins with the gentle tradition of offering alms to monks on the beach, a gesture of gratitude to welcome the year ahead.
