Chef Sergio Velázquez brings Mexico to Malaysia for 4 days only
Mexican food lovers are in for a treat, as Flavours of Mexico is back for the fifth year running at the Sentidos Gastrobar in Starhill Gallery’s Feast Village. Between 11 to 14 October, authentic Mexican fare specially curated by Guest Chef Sergio Velázquez can be enjoyed throughout the four-day event, featuring dishes like ceviche, gorditas de chorizo, tlacoyos de frijoles, jalapeños rellenos and desserts like oaxaca chocolate ice-cream with anise tamale.
Chef Sergio, who hails from Mexico City and has worked in Michelin-star chef Michael Mina’s group of restaurants in Mexico, has curated a menu using only the simplest, freshest and most basic of ingredients like corn, tomato, avocado, chilli peppers, beans and cocoa. Currently based in Bangkok, Chef Sergio will be heading up his own authentic Mexican restaurant ‘La Lupita’ in Sathorn District, using generational recipes passed down from his grandmother and father.
Co-hosted by JW Marriott Kuala Lumpur and The Embassy of Mexico, Flavours of Mexico is a gastronomical and cultural program to present authentic Mexican food to Malaysians. The launch at JW Marriott’s Bayu Ballroom on 10 October was officiated by Ambassador of Mexico to Malaysia, H.E. Carlos Félix Corona and even saw local celebrity Chef Wan make a guest appearance. With live cooking of quesadillas, tostadas and chimichangas, Chef Wan added a touch of humour and entertainment during the night to promote food and friendship between the two countries.
Special promotions of Tequila Don Ramón will also be available throughout the four days, whose 100% Blue Agave spirits and premium range includes tequila with silver and gold flakes. Flavours of Mexico starts from RM55 nett per person for three courses, or RM65 nett per person for a full course. A la carte options are available for both lunch and dinner.
