Patek Philippe is Celebrating the 50th Anniversary of The Iconic Nautilus
The iconic Swiss Watch manufacture is opening an immersive exhibition in Switzerland that introduces visitors to the historic journey of one of their most disruptive and defining creations.
The Patek Philippe Museum in Geneva is retracing the Nautilus’ formidable history with a new exclusive showcase.
Marking the golden anniversary of one of Patek Philippe’s flagship collections, the museum is set to open a brand-new thematic exhibition that traverses the extensive history of the illustrious Nautilus model. Running from June 2026 to early 2027, visitors will be able to learn how the contemporary image of the Swiss brand was shaped by this spearheading design, a watch that transformed Patek Philippe’s image through its heavy focus on originality and functionality.

The introduction of the Nautilus in 1976 marked not only the genesis of a 50-year legacy, but also a challenge to the long-established conventions of luxury watchmaking. Its steel composition deviated from customary material choices, while its octagonal bezel with softened corners proved equally distinctive in a timepiece series. However, innovation was not the singular focus of the Nautilus, as the special attention to function is emphasised by the water-resistant nature of the watch case—rated to a depth of 120m, an impressive feat for a watch from that era. This bold juxtaposition between traditional craftsmanship and modern engineering cemented the Nautilus’ position as one of Patek Philippe’s most revered collections, redefining what constitutes a luxury watch.

The exhibition is rooted in historical archives cataloguing the conception and manufacturing process of the Nautilus, alongside a curated selection of watches that represent different periods of the watch model’s evolution. More than just presenting a display of watches, the new exhibition will chronicle the transformative journey of the Nautilus from an ‘enfant terrible disruptive design’ in the 1970s, to what is now a universally recognised staple of watchmaking.

For the especially dedicated collectors, the exhibition also offers the opportunity to discover the 50th anniversary limited series of the Nautilus, which is available in four exclusive models. These four models serve as both a tribute to the revolutionary origins of the watch, as well as a celebration of the lasting legacy of the Nautilus, permanently etched in the identity of Patek Philippe.
