The Writing To Do

Styljoux’s Mighty Pens

Swiss precision is something most commonly associated with watches. And now, with Styljoux, writing instruments as well.

The brainchild of Iunal Guimali, Styljoux may be a newcomer to the world of luxury pens, but its products have a depth and sophistication that belie their youth. That Swiss precision connection is not accidental; Guimali states that with Styljoux, he is trying to bring a little bit of horology’s excitement and accuracy in pens.

The Le Calibre series borrows this directly. A ring located at the top of the Le Calibre series allows the user to adjust the centre of mass, adjusting a small weight in the barrel of the pen to provide better comfort and grip while writing. A dial at the top indicates visually the relative balance. That it looks like the dial of a watch is no accident.

The Flamingo series is more subtle. While Le Calibre is all about technical wizardry, Flamingo is a pen distilled down to its essence; a minimalist approach adopted by some Swiss watchmakers like H.Moser & Cie. Here, Styljoux is challenged to make a pen out of as few elements as possible – some versions contain only four parts, with the cap, tip and barrel made from a single block of metal, while the cap is held in place by nothing by a vacuum. But don’t let the simplicity fool you. This nifty pen contains a proximity alarm connected to a smartphone, which will beep when you can’t find it.

Styljoux pens are crafted in the finest materials – transparent hard resin, titanium, carbon fibre, ceramic, steel and magnesium alloy. In some cases, the material is of a different plane of precious – the SM005 is crafted from a single block of sapphire, containing five corundum functional jewels.

Think the writing is on the wall for pens? Styljoux would ask you to think again.
