The Lexus LS 500, the latest iteration of the marque’s finest luxury performance saloon, is now available in Malaysia in three variant types — LS 500 Luxury (RM799,000), LS 500 Executive (RM999,000) and the hybrid alternative LS 500h Executive (RM1,459,000).
Completely redesigned from top to bottom and brimming with the firm’s latest bells and whistles, the LS 500 shares the same GA-L (Global Luxury – Architecture) modular platform used on the revered LC. For the non hybrid models, they’re powered by a new 3.5-litre twin-turbo V6 churning 415bhp and 600Nm, thrusting it from a standstill to 100km/h in just 5.0 seconds.
For the range-topping LS 500h, it makes do with a similar mill without the turbochargers, resulting a detuned output of 295bhp. However, it’s paired to a 176bhp and 300Nm electric motor and 310-volt battery pack, yielding a combined 354bhp that enables the hybrid flagship to clock a century sprint time of 5.4 seconds.
Also, the hybrid uses a Multi Stage hybrid transmission that combines a four-speed automatic with a continuously variable transmission (CVT), replicating a 10-speed autobox. It’s a totally different unit compared to the traditional torque converter-based 10-speed automatic used in the non-hybrid variant.
However, all models are evened out in top speed performance to a limited 250km/h. While the LS 500 boasts avant-garde innovations and a stately sheetmetal presence, its sheer opulence also takes place inside with the generous use of plush trimmings, a 23-speaker Mark Levinson audio system and Shiatsu massage front seats. For a more bespoke touch, both Executive variants can be specified with the optional Kiriko Cut Glass ornamentation with hand-folded pleats on the door trim (RM98,000).
