At Hokkaido Table’s Omakase, Experience Gourmet Dining Within A Cinema Setting

The Aurum Theatre at The Exchange TRX isn’t your usual run-of-the-mill cinema experience. Set within the 120,000 sq ft space are not merely cinema halls but also the exquisite F&B dining concept, Hokkaido Table. Here, gourmet dining meets cinematic marvels as this innovative concept introduces an exciting new restaurant, omakase, and a stunning Belle Epoque-inspired cocktail bar.

Chef Edwin, a distinguished master in the craft of Japanese cuisine with three decades of global experience.

At the omakase, traditional Japanese fare intertwines with the vibrant flavours of Italy. From the seasonal bounty of freshly caught fish to aromatic Italian herbs, the seasonal omakase menus are expertly orchestrated by Chef Edwin, a distinguished master in the craft of Japanese cuisine with three decades of global experience.

Hokkaido Table’s omakase currently offers three menus: a five-course lunch (RM288), a six-course dinner (RM488) and a premium seven-course dinner (RM588).

Zuwai Kani Mozuku.

During a visit to sample the six-course dinner menu, my meal commences with Zuwai Kani Mozuku, a Japanese brown algae cold dish with Zuwai Kani snow crab that is highly prized for its sweet, succulent meat. Two types of sashimi—tai bream and chūtoro—soon follow, before we segue into Italian cuisine with an indulgent spinach and ricotta ravioli bathed in gorgonzola sauce.

Delving back into Japanese flavours, I’m treated to teppanyaki-grilled Hokkaido sea scallops, heightened by a robust seafood consommé and crowned with delicate smoked herring roe. Tantalising options of red meat—charcoal grilled A5 wagyu or lamb rack—served with roasted organic vegetables come next, introducing new dimensions to my palate with its bold and hearty flavours. No omakase experience is complete without a selection of sushi nigiri, and aka ebi, hirame, hamachi, and chūtoro are the options this season. The omakase experience comes to a close with a yuzu crème brûlée dessert, which slices through my satiation with its refreshing tang.

Indulgence knows no bounds here. The Hokkaido Table restaurant, omakase, and cocktail bar are open to movie and non-movie goers. However, to savour the full experience, begin your journey in the cinematic wonders of the theatre, before venturing over to omakase for an unforgettable dining experience and then capping off the evening in style at the cocktail bar.
