With this year’s expanded World Cup finals format, excitement had been building throughout the summer as new heroes and villains emerged from a tournament co-hosted by Mexico, the USA and Canada. From the incredible run of Cape Verde, the second-smallest nation ever to qualify, to England’s best finish since 1966, the stage was set for a much-anticipated final between Spain and Argentina.

For the Ferrari Owners’ Club Malaysia (FOCM), the venue selected for its watch party was perhaps the highest in the country: Park Avenue at Resorts World Genting, nearly 2,000 metres above sea level. Here, FOCM members arrived for an afternoon of leisure, checking into the ultra-luxury Crockfords Hotel, a Forbes Travel Guide Five-Star property, in preparation for the long night ahead.

Along the way, they indulged in some retail therapy and sampled the plethora of F&B attractions available at SkyAvenue, including the ever-popular Burger & Lobster. Dinner was then served in Park Avenue’s dining room, where FOCM members enjoyed chargrilled Miyazaki wagyu steaks, succulent Canadian lobsters, fresh oysters and the venue’s signature Chicken Cordon Bleu.

Camaraderie abounded during cigar sessions on Park Avenue’s outdoor terrace, where members also watched a live telecast of the Formula 1 Belgian Grand Prix. Ferrari driver Charles Leclerc secured a podium finish in second place after leading portions of the race. In between, some FOCM members also attended the adjacent Kick Off Party, featuring interactive games, DJ Bambi, DJ duo NOXH and Marshmallow, and a special guest DJ performance by Ms PuiYi.

Soon, it was time for the watch party itself, with the match screened on a giant wall overlooking Genting SkyWorlds Theme Park. Over 120 minutes — including extra time — it was Spain, playing in red, that emerged victorious, edging Lionel Messi’s Argentina 1–0. For FOCM members, who experienced the match from one of the best vantage points in the country, it was a once-in-four-years moment high above the clouds.
