The Ferrari Owners’ Club Malaysia (FOCM)’s recent drive south was a leisurely discovery of Malaysia’s living heritage. First up was Batu Pahat, where the fleet of 33 Ferraris, including a 12Cilindri grand tourer, arrived in the nostalgia-tinged township to enjoy a feast of local favourites from asam pedas to otak-otak, and durians to cap the meal. Following an enjoyable lunch, the convoy then made it into the historical city of Melaka, and straight to the heart of its Portuguese Settlement.

Here, at the recently unveiled The Lisbon Melaka—a Portuguese-inspired retreat—the group was welcomed by representatives of Tourism Melaka as well as dancers and underprivileged children who received a gift of funds raised from FOCM members. A siesta then beckoned in the capacious rooms of The Lisbon Melaka, before sunset cocktails by the waterfront. Dinner of Kristang (Portuguese-influenced) specialities ensued, with a live band in tow and capped by a fireworks display as well as post-dinner cigars at The Lisbon Melaka’s smoking lounge.

The next day, the FOCM convoy was welcomed by one of the most visible and iconic Malaccan brands—snack and beverage legend Mamee Double-Decker’s Ayer Keroh factory. Here, the FOCM members were welcomed by the company’s executive director, Kenneth Pang, who represents the third generation of a family business that has grown across five decades, from an instant noodles manufacturer to its eureka moment with the Mamee Monster noodle snack.

Next came a pitstop at Menara Taming Sari, a gyro tower rising 110m off the ground in the middle of Melaka’s scenic old town, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. A dim sum lunch at the Dusit Princess Melaka’s Long Feng restaurant served authentic Chinese and Cantonese dim sum. Following this, the FOCM convoy made a beeline for the Malacca Sultanate Palace Museum, where they were welcomed by Datuk Mohd Noor Helmy, the deputy state executive councillor for science, technology, innovation, and digital communications. Following an exchange of gifts, the convoy then checked into the new Birkin International Hotel, located along the coast of Melaka, before ending their second day to raucous singing at Peranakan Place Nyonya restaurant.
