Delvaux Debuts First Boutique In Kuala Lumpur With An Exclusive René Magritte-Inspired Collection

Malaysia has just welcomed its first ever Delvaux boutique in Pavilion Kuala Lumpur, proudly expanding its global presence with this highly anticipated addition to KL’s retail scene. Established in 1829, the Belgian brand has prevailed at the forefront of luxury leather goods for nearly two centuries and is renowned for their outstanding quality and diligent artisanship.

The journey began in the midst of a travel revolution, as Delvaux realised that women were seeking convenient access to their belongings while on the move. In 1908, the brand secured its first patent for handbags. Shortly afterward, Franz Schwennicke assumed control of the business, propelling Delvaux into the realm of exclusive brands.

The brand ingeniously introduced seasonal collections, echoing the practices of haute couture. With a repertoire of more than 3,000 handbag designs, Delvaux has played a pivotal role in shaping its extensive and storied history––the tradition lives on as each novel creation undergoes meticulous documentation within Delvaux’s golden book, known as the Livre d’Or. Having proudly served as the official purveyor to the Royal Court of Belgium since 1883, Delvaux continues to share and celebrate Belgian cultural references.

This season, in celebration of René Magritte’s 125th anniversary, Delvaux honours the great Belgian surrealist artist through an exclusive to Asia capsule collection inspired by his life’s passions. This collection transforms Delvaux’s signature silhouettes into wearable canvases, vividly embodying Magritte’s artistry. The collection comprises four motifs, each stemming from Magritte’s distinguished works.

L’Amour captures the romantic essence of Magritte’s The Art of Conversation, depicting intertwined swans against a twilight landscape, symbolising the inseparable bond between Magritte and his wife Georgette Berger. This motif graces Delvaux’s Brilliant and Pin ranges by utilising bourdon stitch on calf leather, highlighting shades of aloe, ivory, azure, and bloom. Meanwhile, the L’Humour motif draws inspiration from one of Magritte’s notable paintings, The Treachery Images, which features a hyperreal delineation of a pipe, accompanied by his famous quote Ceci n’est pas une pipe. Delvaux introduces this in a novel interpretation, adorning box calf leather and taurillon calf leather with scripted embroidery that reads Ceci n’est pas un Delvaux

La Pomme offers a playful presentation of one of Magritte’s most exalted symbols––the apple. This motif appeared in The Married Priest, The Listening Room, and The Son of Man. Crafted from jumping calf leather, the design takes the shape of an apple as a moulded 3D pouch, complete with a crossbody strap. Lastly, L’Homme shows reverence to Magritte’s mystifying bowler-hatted man, complemented by subtle cloud elements on the newly launched Pin City silhouette and smaller items. Comparable to Magritte’s illusive artworks, this collection offers a tangible connection to his surreal conceptualisation. These pieces epitomise love, art, perception, and imagination, serving as cherished collector’s items intended to transcend seasons.

Here at its new boutique, Delvaux is introducing its Belgian heritage and contemporary essence to the heart of Kuala Lumpur. The boutique artfully integrates Delvaux’s heritage with the mall’s opulent surroundings, establishing a welcoming haven for guests to experience their unrivalled craftsmanship. This Malaysian venture is a testament to the brand’s dedication to spreading its allure and legacy to new horizons.

Delvaux is located at Lot 2.42.00, Level 2 of Pavilion Kuala Lumpur.
