Shangri-La’s Rasa Ria Resort Launches 64-Acre Nature Reserve in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah

Shangri-La’s luxurious Rasa Ria Resort & Spa recently established a new immersive guest experience aimed at families with young children, to share Sabahan indigenous culture. This includes scenic walking trails, the Ria Lookout for spotting wildlife, a Discovery Centre, Canopy Walk, Waterfall Garden and an Adventure Point playground.

Owned and managed by Sanctuary, Shangri-La’s Care for Nature project, the 64-acre nature reserve is home to long-tailed macaques, western tarsiers, bear cats, the slow loris, pangolins,  plus 60 species of birds, 100 species of butterflies and a massive spectrum of native plants.

In addition, the Ria Lookout platform has doubled in size to accommodate more guests who want to view the majesty of Mount Kinabalu at sunrise. Early risers can enjoy en early hike to the Ria Lookout followed by a continental breakfast on location, before enjoying Timbalang River scenery and taking on the resort’s own 18-hole golf course. 

Youngsters on the other hand get to play Ranger For The Day at the custom built Adventure Point. A safe place for discovery and adventure, this location has net-tunnels with zip-lines, a tree-trunk climbing zone, large swing basket and a sandpit for mini archeologist to dig for relics.

For the whole family, don’t miss visiting the Bajau and Dusun tribes of Tuaran who have preserved their customs, festivals, and authentic cuisine.
