Launching the Capeland Shelby Cobra 1963 Legendary Drivers Edition
Following the launch of the Capeland Shelby Cobra 1963 collection presented at the SIHH 2016, Baume & Mercier organized the first European ‘Shelby Only’ car meeting in April. The event brought together authentic Shelby American cars on the famous Le Castellet race track in the south of France, as a roaring tribute to a legendary racing car – the Shelby Cobra 289 CSX2128 – and to its legendary drivers from the 1960s. Around 30 authentic Shelby cars roared off along the famous Mistral straight line, including iconic models such as the Cobra 427, 289, GT40 and GT350, famous Shelby cars.
Four new original ‘Legendary Drivers Edition’ watches from the Capeland Shelby Cobra 1963 collection, were also unveiled at the event. As a tribute to the expert drivers who steered the Cobra CSX2128 to the racetrack podiums, the watches are named after four legendary drivers: Dan Gurney, Ken Miles, Dave MacDonald and Allen Grant. The automatic timepieces have dials sporting racing lines and, at 9 o’clock, the racing number of these four heroes of the wheel.
With cases in polished satin-finished steel or steel-ADLC and straps in vulcanized rubber or alligator, each of these four Capeland Shelby Cobra 1963 Legendary Drivers Edition watches features a variation on black, white and yellow: the dial, tachymeter scale and straps are inspired by color combinations on the CSX2128’s bodywork. The watches are limited to 15 pieces each, in honour of the Cobra CSX2128’s first racing number.
