A remarkable little Hideaway
A humble boathouse has been transformed into a gated romantic getaway on the grounds of Ashford Castle, one of Ireland’s most scenic resorts. Built in the 13th century, the castle-turned-hotel sits on 350 acres of woodland that kisses the edge of the Emerald Isle’s second largest lake, Lough Corrib. Further down the shoreline, and set right on the water’s edge, is the dreamy new haven – the Hideaway Cottage.
The cottage now contains an entry hall, a spacious bedroom, and elegant bathroom. The renovation also included the addition of French parquet flooring, built-in cabinetry created by Loughnanes of Ireland, and the usage of stones and original fireplace lintels sourced from the estate. A blue Murano glass chandelier and hand-painted ceiling designs are focal points in the bedroom. With its mix of antique and custom-made furniture, the interior combines classic European charm and modern comfort within the stone walls and deeply pitched roof of an exterior that is pure Irish charm.
Guests of the Hideaway Cottage will have their own bicycles to access to all of the resort’s amenities, from falconry lessons and horseback riding to its nine-hole golf course and 32-seat cinema. In addition to dining at the property’s three restaurants, occupants can choose dine al fresco on the cottage’s private pier. Also exclusive to the cottage is a dedicated Hideaway Assistant, who is on-call to accommodate every request.
