the mark of class
The Mercedes-AMG brand needs little introduction. To mark Mercedes-AMG’s 50th anniversary since its founding as a racing engine forge in 1967, Mercedes-Benz Malaysia recently introduced six new performance models to entice driving enthusiasts. With AMG-enhanced 3.0-litre V6 biturbo engines under the hoods — boasting base performance figures of 367hp and 520Nm — and 9G-TRONIC transmissions keeping those ponies in check along with finely-tuned sports suspension, each model lived up to their billing as performance masterpieces.
With an intent to gradually make our way up the AMG chain, we began the festivities with the Mercedes-AMG C 43 4MATIC (RM499,888). As an attractive entry into the world of AMG, the model combines a permanent all-wheel-drive system and a sophisticated suspension borrowed from the Mercedes-AMG C 63. Its two-door twin, the Mercedes-AMG C 43 4MATIC Coupé (RM548,888), is no doubt a looker with its sleeker profile and performance racing bits.
Next up, the SLC 43 (RM570,888); a stunning display of cabriolet styling. Flick a switch and the roof recedes, but don’t mistake this open-top beauty to just win you over just on looks alone — leave that to the 0-100kmh of just 4.7 seconds.
Performance-enhanced SUVs are an acquired taste for most but the Mercedes-AMG GLC 43 4MATIC (RM538,888) is a particularly dynamic addition to the AMG line-up. Although it sits in the SUV category, the GLC 43 4MATIC holds its own with a 0-100kph sprint in under five seconds. As with the C-Class, the GLC 43 4MATIC Coupé (RM580,888) offers the same experience with a more elegant design.
Finally, and uprated to offer 401hp, the E 43 4MATIC (RM658,888) is another sedan in the AMG line that means business. The century sprint is achieved in 4.6 seconds and with an AMG Sports Suspension and AIR BODY CONTROL that intelligently adjusts the damping of the wheels to deliver a dynamic drive with a high degree of flexibility, it’s a model that manages to instill confidence with every turn and corner.
